With the local elections in June approaching, Choi Seungwon, former policy secretary to the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and a potential candidate for Mayor of Goyang Special City, has published a book titled "I Am the Policy Secretary to the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in the Lee Jaemyung Administration," which sets out his policy philosophy and vision for Goyang. He will hold a book launch on the 28th.
Choi Seungwon, former policy aide to the Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, will hold a book launch on the 28th. Provided by Choi Seungwon, aide.
The event is scheduled to take place at 3:30 p.m. on the 28th in Room 301 of Exhibition Hall 2 at KINTEX in Goyang. The book recounts the journey of a boy born to a carpenter and raised in an unauthorized house, who went on to serve as a Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly member and secretary to the Speaker of the National Assembly, before reaching the very front line of Korea's land and transport policy as policy secretary to the minister. It also contains the "people-centered" policy philosophy that took root along the way.
The book launch will be graced by a large number of key figures from the ruling party and the government, reflecting the depth of Choi's central political network.
First, Woo Wonshik, Speaker of the National Assembly, will attend to encourage Choi on his new start. In addition, Kim Yoonduk, Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and member of the National Assembly, and Yoo Eunhye, former Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education, who is both Choi's political mentor and comrade, will attend to vouch for his capabilities as a policy expert.
Heavyweight political figures are also drawing attention. Senior lawmakers including Lee Inyoung, former floor leader of the Democratic Party of Korea and former member of the National Assembly for Guro-gu Gap in Seoul, and Kim Byungjoo, former Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea and former member of the National Assembly for Namyangju-si Eul in Gyeonggi Province, will join in force. Lee Kiheon, member of the National Assembly for Goyang-si Byeong in Gyeonggi Province and the local constituency representative, will also attend to lend support.
In addition, Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, is expected to send a congratulatory message. Former lawmaker In Jaekeun, Seo Samseok, Supreme Council member of the Democratic Party of Korea, and Woo Sangho, former Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs, will convey their congratulations via video.
Through this book, Choi elaborates in detail on the "people-centered politics" he learned from the late Chairman Kim Geuntae, the "teachings of democracy" he upheld while serving Speaker Woo Wonshik, and the record of "on-site administration" he implemented at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport under the Lee Jaemyung administration.
Political circles in the region view this book launch as an occasion for Choi to showcase his central government network and hands-on policy capabilities to the wider public. They predict that the mayoral race for Goyang Special City will be shaken up significantly by the emergence of a powerful figure from the central government.
