Tried to Save 30,000 Won, Ended Up Paying 1.6 Million... The Fate of an Influencer Who "Jokingly" Stole a Bikini in Bali

Gemma Do Il apologizes after CCTV footage of bikini theft is released

An Australian adult content creator has sparked controversy after stealing a bikini during a holiday in Bali and being forced to pay a hefty settlement.

According to the Hong Kong-based South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 19th, 26-year-old OnlyFans model Gemma Doyle was caught on CCTV stealing a bikini worth about 21 dollars (around 30,000 won) from a boutique in Bali, Indonesia.

In a video she posted online, Doyle admitted, "The rumors going around are true," and said, "I stole the swimsuit as a joke after attending a party." She added by way of explanation, "I have never stolen anything in my life and I only did it for fun."

After footage of the incident spread on social media, she faced a torrent of criticism and even death threats. Some online users lashed out, saying, "Why hasn't she been arrested yet?" and "She doesn't seem genuinely sorry."

Doyle later bowed her head, saying, "I am truly sorry. I sincerely apologize to the shop owner and everyone involved." She explained that she had been drunk at the time, called it a "stupid mistake," and said she returned the item to the store and took steps to resolve the issue.

At the same time, she appealed that the death threats had gone too far. She said she actually received threatening messages such as "We know where you live" and "Sleep with one eye open."

According to local police, Doyle paid the store compensation of about 19 million rupiah (around 1.63 million won), which is 50 times the value of the item, and both sides agreed to settle the matter and bring the case to a close.

Under Indonesian law, petty theft can be punished by up to three months in prison, but she avoided criminal punishment through the settlement.

Doyle said, "This incident has given me time to reflect," adding, "I will never do anything like this again."
