Sokcho-si to Implement Policy from the 23rd
24-Hour Special Transportation Service Also Available for Pregnant Women
Sokcho-si in Gangwon-do has revised its ordinance to include pregnant women as eligible users of its special transportation service, in order to improve mobility convenience for transportation-vulnerable residents and to strengthen transportation welfare, and will fully implement the change starting on the 23rd.
The special transportation service consists of vehicles operated to guarantee the right to mobility for transportation-vulnerable people who have difficulty using public transportation. In Sokcho-si, 18 vehicles are in operation, and the city has been providing the service 24 hours a day, year-round, without holidays since 2014.
With this ordinance revision, pregnant women are now also able to use the special transportation service, in addition to those who were already eligible, such as persons with severe mobility disabilities and transportation-vulnerable people aged 65 or older.
Pregnant women who wish to use the service can apply through the Sokcho-si Public Health Center or the nearest dong community service center.
The city expects that the implementation of this system will ease transportation inconveniences experienced during essential outings, such as hospital visits during pregnancy and travel related to childbirth, thereby enhancing the safety and convenience of mobility for pregnant women.
Mayor Lee Byeongseon of Sokcho-si said, "Creating an environment in which pregnant women can travel with peace of mind is the starting point for becoming a city that is good for having and raising children," adding, "We will continue to expand transportation welfare policies that provide practical help to families with childbirth and childrearing."
