287,000 Residents Aged 0-39, 393,000 Aged 20-59
"The Youngest and Most Dynamic Autonomous District"
Songpa-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Seo Kangseok) analyzed resident registration population statistics from 2022 to 2025 and found that the populations of the "future generation (ages 0 to 39)" and the "economic backbone (ages 20 to 59)" have been the largest among the 25 autonomous districts of Seoul for four consecutive years.
In this analysis, Songpa-gu defined ages 0 to 39, corresponding to children, adolescents, and young adults, as the "future generation," and ages 20 to 59, who are at the center of production and consumption activities, as the "economic backbone," in order to examine the age structure. The aim was to assess both the city’s growth base and its self-sufficiency not by simple total population, but through its age composition.
As of 2025, the population of Songpa-gu stands at 643,350, and the district has maintained its position as the most populous autonomous district in Seoul for 18 consecutive years since the resident registration population statistics system was established in 2008.
The average population of the future generation over the four years was 287,663, about 127,000 higher than the average of 159,916 for Seoul’s autonomous districts. During the same period, the average population of the economic backbone was 393,668, exceeding the district average of 226,278 by about 167,000. The future generation accounts for 44.1% of the total population, while the economic backbone accounts for 60.4%, indicating that both pillars are robustly formed.
A similar trend is observed in the living population indicators. In 2025, the average daily living population of Songpa-gu is around 740,000, and it is estimated that an average of 100,000 people per day flow in from outside the district for commuting, education, commercial activities, and other purposes.
The district cited childcare and education policies, improvements in the residential environment, and the promotion of large-scale development projects as the background for this population structure. Family-friendly policies such as operating native-speaker English classes and building integrated children’s facilities are underway, along with 41 redevelopment projects including the Jamsil Jugong Complex 5. Infrastructure expansion for transportation and development, such as the creation of the Jamsil MICE complex, the Wirye Line tram, and the Wirye-Shinsa Line projects, is also being carried out without delay.
In the "2025 District Residents Opinion Survey" conducted in November last year, 98.7% of residents responded that the district is "a good place to live," and 98.1% said they "want to continue living here."
Songpa District Mayor Seo Kangseok stated, "Songpa-gu has proven through the objective report card of 'population' that it is the most dynamic and livable city in Seoul," adding, "Based on the energy generated by our abundant resident and living populations, we will create a premier city representing Korea where everyone wants to live."
