CU quick commerce sales rise alongside growth of "get Coffee" delivery
Sales up 112% just four months after launch...last year's growth rate reaches 65.4%
BGF Retail announced on the 22nd that sales of get Coffee delivery at its convenience store chain CU have more than doubled in about four months since the launch of the "get Coffee Delivery Service," showing rapid growth.
In September last year, CU began expanding its convenience store quick commerce business by introducing the get Coffee Delivery Service, which delivers freshly brewed drip coffee, at around 2,000 stores through Baemin Store.
According to CU's analysis of about four months of operational data for the "get Coffee Delivery Service," sales of get Coffee delivery in January this year increased by 112% compared to the initial launch period. During the same period, the number of operating stores increased by about 25%, while sales more than doubled, indicating that the service is quickly becoming established.
By store location type, single-person housing areas posted the highest growth rate. CU analyzed that this was the result of the lifestyle of single-person households, who prefer convenient and fast consumption, aligning with the immediacy of convenience store delivery services. This was followed by strong sales growth in residential clusters such as family housing and mixed-use residential-commercial areas.
By time of day, the share of sales was highest at 8% during lunchtime between 12:00 and 13:00, then declined before rising again to 7% during the nighttime hours between 21:00 and 23:00. CU assessed that this reflects demand for conveniently ordering coffee with lunch, as well as the characteristics of convenience store delivery that allow customers to enjoy drip coffee even after coffee shops have closed.
By product type, demand for iced coffee was overwhelmingly high. Iced coffee accounted for about 88% of get Coffee delivery orders, confirming a seasonless consumption trend in which customers prefer iced Americano even in the middle of winter.
Along with this growth in get Coffee delivery, CU's quick commerce sales are also increasing. Compared to the previous year, CU's quick commerce sales posted robust growth rates of 98.6% in 2023, 142.8% in 2024, and 65.4% in 2025, solidifying quick commerce as a core growth driver for convenience stores.
Currently, the get Coffee Delivery Service is being offered at around 2,500 stores nationwide, and CU plans to increase the number of operating stores to more than 4,000 by expanding franchise participation. The company also intends to continuously strengthen the competitiveness of its O4O quick commerce in convenience stores by linking with various delivery platforms and developing coffee-pairing products.
Meanwhile, Baemin Store will offer free delivery for a total of 14 days on March 1-5, 9-15, and 28-29 for orders of 15,000 won or more, and will provide a 5,000 won discount coupon to customers who order 20,000 won or more from March 16 to 23.
Yoon Sung-sik, Head of the Online Commerce Team at BGF Retail, said, "The get Coffee Delivery Service has rapidly increased its sales volume in a short period since launch and has become a major growth category in convenience store quick commerce. Going forward, CU will continue to enhance products and services tailored to the rise of single-person households and changing consumption patterns to further improve convenience in our customers' daily lives."
