Joguk Hyeoksindang on U.S. Ruling Against Reciprocal Tariffs: "We Must Respond with National-Interest-Oriented Diplomacy"

On the 21st, the Joguk Hyeoksindang stated, in response to a ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that the reciprocal tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on countries including Korea are unlawful, that "the Lee Jaemyung administration must use the U.S. judiciary's decision as leverage, work closely with the international community, and respond with a thoroughly national-interest-oriented diplomacy."

Park Chankyu, spokesperson for the Joguk Hyeoksindang, said in a commentary that day, "We must closely analyze the additional countermeasures that Trump has announced and be fully prepared so that our companies do not fall victim to unilateralism that has lost its legitimacy."

He went on to emphasize, "President Trump is signaling immediate retaliatory measures, but the reciprocal tariffs have now lost their legal legitimacy," adding, "The Trump administration must respect the judgment of the U.S. judiciary and immediately halt its baseless tariff pressure."

The Progressive Party and the Social Democratic Party also argued that the National Assembly should either completely suspend or reconsider its discussions on the Special Act on Investment in the United States.

Son Sol, chief spokesperson for the Progressive Party, said in a commentary that day, "The legal basis for the 'tariff blackmail' that Trump has waged against the entire world has collapsed entirely," and urged, "The government and the National Assembly must immediately stop pushing ahead with the Special Act on Investment in the United States."

Han Changmin, leader of the Social Democratic Party, also said, "The Trump administration's violent trade policy cannot continue to the end," and, regarding the National Assembly's discussions on the Special Act on Investment in the United States, stated, "Rather than rushing, it should be reconsidered in light of changes in U.S. policy and our government's response plans."
