"Another Outbreak" of African Swine Fever...Confirmed at Pig Farm in Muan, Jeollanam-do African swine fever (ASF) was confirmed on the 20th at a pig farm in Hyeonggyeong-myeon, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do. Provided by Jeollanam-do

As African swine fever (ASF) was confirmed on the 20th at a pig farm located in Hyeonggyeong-myeon, Muan-gun, Jeollanam-do, the provincial government is taking swift initial quarantine measures and making every effort to prevent further spread.

The farm raises 3,500 pigs, and after the Jeollanam-do Animal Health Laboratory received a report from the farmer about pig deaths and conducted a detailed test, ASF was finally confirmed.

Immediately upon receiving the suspected case report, Jeollanam-do dispatched an initial quarantine team (two people) from the Livestock Sanitation and Quarantine Support Headquarters to implement quarantine measures such as restricting access to and disinfecting the farm, and designated the area within a 10 km radius of the affected farm as a quarantine zone, where movement restrictions, disinfection, and monitoring were carried out.

In addition, two on-site support officers from the province were dispatched and are currently investigating the surrounding environment and analyzing the cause of the outbreak.

To prevent further spread, Jeollanam-do is swiftly culling the pigs at the affected farm, thoroughly carrying out post-management such as cleaning, disinfection, and blocking environmental contamination in nearby areas, and conducting detailed and clinical examinations on epidemiologically related farms.

A 24-hour standstill order has been issued until 7 p.m. on the 21st, along with simultaneous disinfection, for pig farms and livestock-related facilities in Muan-gun and five adjacent cities and counties (Mokpo-si, Naju-si, Yeongam-gun, Hampyeong-gun, and Sinan-gun).

Lee Youngnam, head of the Animal Quarantine Division of Jeollanam-do, said, "This is a grave situation, as ASF outbreaks have recently been occurring not only in Jeollanam-do but also across the country," and urged, "Please strictly comply with administrative orders such as banning gatherings (events) of pig farm workers and restricting and disinfecting access to farms, and be sure to follow basic quarantine rules such as disinfection and changing boots when entering livestock sheds."

As of the 20th, there have been 19 cases nationwide (6 in Gyeonggi, 2 in Gangwon, 3 in South Chungcheong, 3 in Jeollanam-do, 2 in Jeollabuk-do, 2 in Gyeongsangnam-do, and 1 in Gyeongsangbuk-do). In Jeollanam-do, three cases have occurred in Muan, Naju, and Yeonggwang.
