Yeongcheon City Council held its February regular meeting for council members on the 20th and thoroughly reviewed a total of 23 agenda items. Provided by Yeongcheon City Council.
The most notable part of this briefing was the effort to establish institutional mechanisms aimed at improving the quality of life for farmers and invigorating the public sector.
The ordinance bill on fostering and supporting local food in Yeongcheon City, proposed by Assemblyman Kim Jonguk, focuses on developing sales channels for small-scale and elderly farmers.
The intent is to create a virtuous cycle in which a solidified local production-consumption system provides stable income for farmers and safe food for citizens.
The partial amendment ordinance bill on the service regulations for local public officials of the Yeongcheon City Council, proposed by Council Operations Committee Chairman Kwon Gihan, also stands out.
It introduces new types of leave, namely "new employee leave" and "birthday leave," for junior public officials.
This initiative was pushed ahead of the executive branch in a preemptive manner, based on the judgment that preventing the outflow of talented personnel and enhancing employee welfare will, in turn, strengthen the professionalism of legislative support.
During the briefing on the progress of the Daegu-Gyeongbuk integration initiative, council members strongly called for the protection of Yeongcheon City's interests.
In particular, they urged the executive branch to respond proactively and preemptively so that Yeongcheon City is not marginalized amid rapid changes in the administrative environment.
They also requested that the voices from the field be fully reflected when pursuing projects funded by national government competitions, in order to enhance administrative effectiveness, and they clearly expressed the council's commitment to providing support to secure future growth engines for the region.
Chairman Kim Seontae stated, "The more an issue concerns the future of the region, the more essential close communication between the council and the executive branch becomes," adding, "We will continue to work in an organic partnership so that the alternatives derived from this briefing lead to tangible changes that citizens can truly feel."
The agenda items discussed at this briefing are scheduled to be finalized after deliberation at an upcoming extraordinary session.
