Trump Says South Korea Will Join Gaza Aid Fundraising Event Hosted by Japan

U.S. President Donald Trump said on the 19th (local time) that South Korea will also take part in supporting the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

Presiding over the first board meeting of the Gaza Strip Peace Committee held in Washington, D.C. that day, President Trump outlined the international community's efforts to support Gaza, saying, "Japan has just pledged to host a donor conference, and this will be a very big event," and added that "other countries in the region, including South Korea, the Philippines, and Singapore, will participate."

He went on to say, "I know that China is also scheduled to participate, and I believe Russia will take part as well."

If President Trump’s description is accurate, the South Korean government is expected to attend the event hosted by Japan and announce a plan to contribute a certain amount of funds for the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip.

The Peace Committee was launched last January at President Trump’s initiative. It is effectively responsible for the transitional governance of the Gaza Strip, and President Trump serves as its chair.

President Trump has been sounding out countries around the world on participating in the Peace Committee and providing reconstruction funds, and on this day nine countries - Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan, and Kuwait - agreed to contribute a total of more than 7 billion dollars.
