Awards in Three Categories: Science, Engineering, and Science Teaching
Hosted by Busan Metropolitan City and co-organized by the Busan Institute of Science and Technology for Education Promotion (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu) and the Busan Science and Technology Association (Co-Chairs: Busan National University President Choi Jaewon and Panasia Chairman Lee Sutae), the 25th Busan Science and Technology Awards will begin accepting nominations for the 2026 laureates from March 4, 2026.
Now in its 25th year, the Busan Science and Technology Awards is an award program established to discover and highlight outstanding scientists and engineers who represent Busan, thereby enhancing their pride and strengthening the stature of the local science and technology community. By identifying and honoring scientists and engineers who represent the region, such as Jang Youngsil, a scientist from Busan, and Dr. Woo Jangchun, who conducted research and development in Busan, the awards aim to boost research motivation and reinforce the driving force behind the advancement of science and technology in Busan.
This year’s awards will recognize winners in three categories: Science Award, Engineering Award, and Science Teacher Award.
The Science Award and the Engineering Award will each honor one researcher affiliated with a university or research institute located in Busan, granting a plaque and prize money of 10 million won to each recipient. The Science Teacher Award will honor one science teacher with between 10 and 20 years of teaching experience, who is in charge of science subjects at an elementary, middle, or high school in the Busan area, granting a plaque and prize money of 5 million won.
Nominations will be accepted from March 4 to March 12, 2026, and the final awardees will be confirmed through a review process. Details such as how to apply and required documents can be found in the announcement posted on the Busan Science and Technology Association website.
An official from Busan Metropolitan City stated, “We will actively identify outstanding cases so that researchers, who are at the core of regional science and technology development, can have their value properly recognized,” adding, “We look forward to many applications and recommendations from capable talents who will elevate the stature of Busan’s science and technology.”
