Apply by February 27... Small Business Confirmation Certificate required
Gangbuk-gu in Seoul (District Mayor Lee Soonhee) will reduce road occupancy fees by 25% this year to ease the financial burden on small business owners.
This reduction continues a policy introduced in 2021 to support private businesses suffering management difficulties in the wake of COVID-19. The beneficiaries are small business owners and operators of business facilities located on sidewalks. Small business owners are defined as enterprises that, under the Framework Act on Small and Medium Enterprises, are classified as small enterprises, have fewer than 10 full-time employees in mining, manufacturing, construction, or transportation, or fewer than 5 in other industries, and meet the sales criteria.
Applications for the reduction can be submitted to the Construction Management Division in person, by fax (02-901-5551), or by mail until February 27 this year. If applicants submit a Small Business Confirmation Certificate, the reduction will be applied without any additional documents. If it is difficult to submit the certificate, they may instead provide a business registration certificate along with documents verifying sales and number of employees. Regular road occupancy fee bills reflecting the reduction will be sent out in March, and even after the bills are issued, fee reductions can still be processed if the Small Business Confirmation Certificate is submitted.
An official from the district office said, "The road occupancy fee reduction policy is a measure to substantially ease the management burden on small business owners at a time when economic difficulties continue," adding, "We will continue to prepare various policies to support small business owners and reinvigorate the local economy."
