Lee Jaesik, Chairman of the Board of Namseoul University, passed away on the 17th due to old age. He was 92.

Namseoul University Founder Chairman Lee Jaesik Passes Away from Old Age

Born in 1934 in Jangsu, North Jeolla Province, he graduated from the College of Engineering at Hanyang University and worked as a researcher at a state-run research institute. He then launched the night school "Heemangwon" for working youths and adult learners, and went on to establish "Sudo Academy," which became a cradle of literacy education.


In 1994, he founded Namseoul University based on Christian principles and developed it into a leading private university in the central region of Korea.


In recognition of his dedication to the advancement of literacy and lifelong education, he received the Seoul Education Award and the Korea Literacy Education Award, among others. In 2004, he was awarded the Order of Civil Merit, Magnolia Medal, by the Korean government.


He is survived by his eldest son, Lee Yoonseok, Vice President of Namseoul University; his second son, Lee Hyungseok, a Korean-American businessman; and his daughter, Lee Heeseung, who operates a social welfare facility.


The funeral is being held in Room 17 of the funeral hall at Samsung Medical Center in Seoul, and the funeral procession will take place at 6:30 a.m. on the 20th.
