Geumsan County is joining forces with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) to boost the local economy through sports marketing that utilizes Geumsan Baseball Stadium, with the goal of making Geumsan a community united through baseball.
On February 12, Geumsan County Governor Park Beomin held a meeting with KBO President Heo Guyeon, who visited Geumsan County Office, to discuss ways to broaden the base of baseball and promote mutual development by attracting baseball-related events.
The meeting was attended by Governor Park, President Heo, and key officials from organizations such as the Geumsan County Sports Council and the Geumsan County Baseball Softball Association, who engaged in in-depth discussions on strategies for regional development through baseball.
In particular, they reviewed wide-ranging plans to revitalize the local community, including continuously expanding club-level and amateur baseball tournaments centered on Geumsan Baseball Stadium, broadcasting professional baseball games on the stadium’s large electronic display board for Geumsan residents who have limited access to in-person pro games, and organizing group cheering programs.
They also exchanged views on facility improvements and an operational model for hosting Futures League games.
The county is considering participating as an advertising sponsor for television broadcasts of the Futures League. Through this, it aims to enhance brand value and attract visitor traffic by promoting the Geumsan World Ginseng Festival and local specialty products nationwide as part of its sports marketing strategy.
In addition, they agreed to co-host the KBO’s grassroots expansion program, a tee-ball tournament, as an international event that will include not only elementary school teams from across Korea but also invited teams from Japan and Taiwan.
A county official said, “Collaboration with the Korea Baseball Organization will be an important turning point for Geumsan County to emerge as a baseball hub in the central region and to inject vitality into the local economy,” adding, “We will enhance residents’ pride by attracting international sports events and ensuring thorough management.”
Meanwhile, since 2024 Geumsan County has been consistently hosting youth and amateur baseball tournaments. Last year, it continued to fuel local enthusiasm for baseball by using the large electronic display board at Geumsan Baseball Stadium to broadcast live postseason games of the Hanwha Eagles, the professional club with regional affiliation, and by organizing group cheering events for Geumsan residents.
