Gumi City Council Planning and Administration Committee Explores Gumi-Style Policy Models Through Cases in History, Youth, and Spatial Innovation

From February 10 to Wednesday the 11, the Planning and Administration Committee of the Gumi City Council in North Gyeongsang Province conducted a two-day, one-night comparative field trip during the 293rd temporary session of the Gumi City Council, visiting leading facilities in Busan and Gimhae to review overall policies on youth support, veterans affairs administration, and idle space regeneration.

First, the committee visited the Youth Doodream Center in Busan to examine the operation of an integrated youth support platform that combines youth employment support with cultural activities.

In particular, they reviewed how the center creates spaces that provide youth with practical "opportunities" through public-private cooperation, as well as the current status of youth-focused programs such as customized employment consulting and support for youth cultural activities. They then discussed concrete measures to enhance the effectiveness of Gumi City's youth policies.

At the National Memorial Museum of Forced Mobilization under Japanese Occupation, their next stop, the committee examined the national-level system for collecting and preserving historical records and the advanced exhibition storytelling techniques used to convey them to the public.

The committee members closely studied the layout that harmoniously combines the "Children's History Museum," which delivers historical value to all generations, with memorial spaces, drawing implications for upgrading the content of the Park Chung-hee Presidential History Museum in Gumi and for pursuing dignified veterans affairs administration.

The Wisdom Sea Library in Gimhae, visited on the second day, is a representative example of space regeneration, in which an idle public facility, a closed school, was remodeled and reborn as an open, multi-purpose cultural space.

Listening to explanations about the space design that transformed the school gymnasium into a grand library and cultural performance venue, and about the unique operating methods that encourage voluntary participation by the local community, the committee explored strategies to turn aging public facilities in Gumi City into local hubs that improve citizens' quality of life.

Committee Chair Jang Mikyung stated, "The core of the legislative activities pursued by our committee is to carry the memories of yesterday into today and build a city where every citizen's tomorrow is happy," adding, "We will actively reflect in Gumi City's policies the cases of recording historical value, youth advancement, and spatial innovation that we confirmed through this visit, and thereby create substantial outcomes that citizens can truly feel."
