On February 9, Gumi City in North Gyeongsang Province announced that it will operate major public facilities throughout the entire Lunar New Year holiday period to enhance convenience for citizens and visiting families.

Twelve facilities, including the park golf course, Gumi Camping Site, Geumosan Campground, Okseong Natural Recreation Forest, and Silla Buddhism First Land, will remain open for the entire holiday. Swimming pools and other facilities at the Olympic Memorial National Fitness Center, Gangdong National Sports Center, and Workers' Cultural Center will operate as usual, except on their regular closing days and on Lunar New Year's Day. Major tourist attractions such as Eco Land, the Neo-Confucianism History Museum, and the Carbon Zero Education Center will also be open to visitors, except on Lunar New Year's Day, to welcome those returning home.

The city has prepared a "2026 Comprehensive Plan for the Lunar New Year Holiday" and will operate a comprehensive situation room for five days starting on the 14th, staffed by 91 people organized into 10 teams. It will establish situation management systems by sector, including disaster and safety, road management, environmental maintenance, and medical response, to respond swiftly to various civil complaints and accidents that may occur during the holiday.

Safety management will also be strengthened. The city will conduct prior safety inspections of vulnerable facilities such as large-scale retail stores, logistics warehouses, and traditional markets, while simultaneously inspecting road safety facilities and carrying out intensive repairs on potholes. It will also conduct special inspections of popular holiday foods, including ritual and gift foods, to ensure food safety.

The city will work to minimize any gaps in medical services. Centered on local emergency medical institutions, it will maintain a 24-hour emergency treatment system, and will provide information on on-call medical institutions and pharmacies open on holidays through lifestyle information leaflets and social media. These measures are intended to ensure that citizens can quickly receive medical services in the event of sudden illness or emergencies during the holiday.

Measures to revitalize the local economy will proceed in parallel. The city will sell 15 billion won worth of Gumi Love Gift Certificates at a special 12% discount to stimulate holiday consumption, and will open 13 paid public parking lots free of charge to make it easier to visit traditional markets and major shopping districts. Parking enforcement will be temporarily suspended during the Lunar New Year holiday to reduce parking inconveniences for visiting families and to improve conditions for holiday shopping.

The city will also make every effort to manage the urban environment. It will strengthen household waste collection and environmental maintenance to preserve a pleasant city image and will promptly activate maintenance systems after the holiday. In addition, it will deliver consolation money and goods to 1,265 low-income households and social welfare facilities, and will implement close-contact welfare administration by checking in on vulnerable groups such as elderly people living alone, thereby fostering a holiday atmosphere in which no one is left out.

Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho said, "Holidays are days of rest, but the safety and daily lives of our citizens cannot come to a halt," adding, "Even during the holiday period, we will put citizen safety and livelihood stability first, and through on-site, field-oriented responses, we hope to ensure a holiday free of inconvenience."
