Gyeongsangnam-do Province will waive tolls on all privately funded roads in the province during this year's Lunar New Year holiday.
Accordingly, tolls will be set at 0 won for four days, from 12:00 a.m. on the 15th until midnight on the 18th, on the following routes: Machang Bridge, Geoga Bridge, and the Changwon-Busan Road (Bulmosan Tunnel).
Tolls will also be waived on Pallyong Tunnel and the Jiga-Namsan Road, which are managed by Changwon City.
If vehicles pass through tollgates as usual, the tolls will be automatically waived, and vehicles equipped with Hi-Pass devices can simply keep the device turned on and use the designated lanes.
The Gyeongsangnam-do Provincial Government expects that a total of around 600,000 vehicles will benefit from the toll exemption during this Lunar New Year holiday, and it will fully cover the approximately 1.6 billion won in tolls that users would otherwise have to pay.
The province plans to inform the public about the toll exemption through road electronic signboards, its official website, and social media (SNS) channels.
It also intends to focus on facility inspections and the establishment of road safety measures so that people returning to their hometowns can use the province's roads safely.
The provincial government expects that this decision will help ease the financial burden on travelers whose wallets have been strained by holiday price increases, and that an increase in tourists visiting Gyeongsangnam-do will revitalize local commercial districts.
Park Sungjun, Director General of the Transportation and Construction Bureau, said, "We hope that people returning to their hometowns and tourists visiting during the Lunar New Year holiday will enjoy their trips to Gyeongsangnam-do without the burden of tolls," adding, "We will do our utmost to ensure that all visitors can spend a safe and happy holiday."
