Expansion of Sports Infrastructure and Attraction of Sporting Events
Strengthening Gumi City's Urban Competitiveness and Positively Impacting the Local Economy
To Be Held at Dongrak Park Golf Course in June with Around 1,000 Participants
On the 5th, Gu Jageun, Member of the National Assembly (People Power Party, Gumi A, North Gyeongsang), announced that the Korea Park Golf Association had decided to hold the 3rd Presidential National Park Golf Tournament in Gumi City.
The Presidential National Park Golf Tournament is organized by the Korea Park Golf Association and sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee. It is a large-scale sporting event in which around 1,000 players and officials participate every year.

This year's tournament is scheduled to be held over two days in June at the Gumi Dongrak Park Golf Course, and clubs and teams from across the country will visit Gumi. Accordingly, it is expected to have a positive ripple effect on the local economy as a whole, including revitalizing local commercial districts and boosting the lodging and restaurant industries.
Park golf is a sport that anyone, regardless of age or gender, can easily enjoy, and the number of participants nationwide is rapidly increasing, especially among senior citizens. According to the Korea Park Golf Association, the number of registered members alone increased more than fivefold, from about 45,000 in 2020 to about 230,000 in 2025. When unregistered users are included, the actual number of participants is estimated to exceed 600,000.
Gumi City has created the conditions to stably host nationwide tournaments by leveraging its excellent natural environment centered on the Nakdong River and its systematically developed sports facility infrastructure.
Representative Gu has been known for his efforts to expand Gumi's sports infrastructure and attract nationwide sporting events. He has led the attraction of the I-League Football Festival hosted by the Korea Football Association for three consecutive years, the Advanced Football Experience Event for Agricultural, Mountainous and Fishing Villages for five consecutive years, as well as securing national funding and promoting projects for the improvement of the riverside baseball stadium and the renovation of the civic stadium and the Park Chung-hee Gymnasium.
This tournament bid is also regarded as a result of these efforts. By bringing a national-level park golf tournament, whose participant base is rapidly growing nationwide, to Gumi, the city has created an opportunity not only to broaden the base of everyday sports, but also to further strengthen its capacity to host large-scale sporting events.
Representative Gu stated, "Sporting events are a key factor in enhancing a city's competitiveness and driving positive change in local commercial districts," adding, "We will continue to systematically expand Gumi City's sports infrastructure to improve the quality of life for citizens and ensure that this leads to tangible growth effects for the local economy."
