Gyeonggi Province Records 99.5% Completion Rate for Licensed Real Estate Agents' Continuing Education Program Last Year

Gyeonggi Province recorded a completion rate of 99.5% for the continuing education program for licensed real estate agents conducted last year.

The Gyeonggi Provincial Government announced on the 6th that, out of 10,632 licensed real estate agents who run or belong to brokerages and were required to take the continuing education course last year, 10,578 completed the program.

To ease the financial burden on licensed real estate agents, Gyeonggi Province fully converted the online continuing education program to a free-of-charge system starting in July last year.

By covering in full, with the provincial budget, the education fees that had previously been charged, the province created an environment in which licensed real estate agents can focus solely on improving their job competencies without worrying about costs.

The province also sought changes in the content of the curriculum. Going beyond simply providing information on amendments to relevant laws and regulations, it intensively organized as a required subject the course on "prevention of jeonse fraud and real estate transaction accidents," which has recently emerged as a major social issue.

In particular, Gyeonggi Province enhanced the educational impact by linking the program with the "Gyeonggi Safe Jeonse Project," a public-private partnership social campaign that the province is promoting for the first time in the country.

During the course, the Gyeonggi Provincial Government covered the 10 key action tasks of the "Safe Jeonse Gatekeeper Campaign" and response measures for each type of illegal activity, so that licensed real estate agents can serve as "safety sentinels" who first screen out illegal acts on the ground.

Son Imsung, Director General of Urban Housing at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government, said, "There are limits to preventing sophisticated real estate crimes such as jeonse fraud through administrative crackdowns alone, and the expertise and ethical awareness of licensed real estate agents in the field are the last line of defense protecting the property of Gyeonggi residents," adding, "We will continue to develop the continuing education program not as a mere procedural obligation, but as a 'growth opportunity' that helps licensed real estate agents become 'trusted partners of Gyeonggi residents'."
