On February 4, President Lee Jaemyung congratulated Kim Jaeyeol, president of the International Skating Union (ISU), on his election to the Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

Through a Facebook post that day, President Lee said of Kim's election, "Beyond being a personal honor, this has enabled the Republic of Korea to play an even more leading role at the center of international sports governance."

Kim, the only IOC member from Korea, was elected to the IOC Executive Board, which decides major Olympic policies and key agenda items. This is the second time a Korean has become an IOC Executive Board member, following the late former IOC Vice President Kim Unyong.

President Lee said, "Member Kim Jaeyeol, as the first non-European president of the ISU, has helped enhance the international standing of Korean sports," adding, "In particular, since being elected as an IOC member, he has worked for the success of the Gangwon 2024 Winter Youth Olympic Games, using Pyeongchang's experience to share it with future generations and laying the groundwork for communicating with the world."

He went on to stress, "Your extensive experience and outstanding leadership will serve as a solid foundation for designing and leading the future of the Olympic Movement."

Addressing Kim, President Lee declared, "I hope you will continue to expand international cooperation through sports, based on the Olympic values of fairness and transparency, peace and solidarity," and added, "The government will also actively support sports diplomacy and, as a responsible partner, will work together with the international community to contribute to it."
