Gwangyang Baegunsan Gorosoe "Yaksuje" To Be Held

Praying for Citizens' Well-Being and an Abundant Harvest of Gorosoe Sap

Gwangyang City in South Jeolla Province announced that it will hold the 43rd Baegunsan Gorosoe Yaksuje at 9:00 a.m. on the 10th in the Yaksujedan area of Donggok-ri, Okryong-myeon.

This event has been prepared to pray for the well-being of citizens throughout the year and for an abundant harvest of Baegunsan gorosoe sap, as well as to widely promote this premium gorosoe obtained from pristine nature.

The 43rd Baegunsan Gorosoe Spring Water Festival will be held on the 10th at the Yaksujedan site in Donggok-ri, Okryong-myeon. Provided by Gwangyang City.

The Gwangyang Baegunsan Gorosoe Yaksuje is a long-standing event that has continued since the early 1980s, combining traditional ancestral rites with the spirit of local unity.

The ritual will be conducted under the auspices of Gwangyang Hyanggyo. It will begin with traditional Korean music and folk song performances by the municipal gugak orchestra, followed by the Joint Water Rite with participation from 12 towns, townships, and neighborhoods, then the Yaksu Ritual, and finally the sharing of the ritual drink.

The city plans to install a large screen near the venue so that anyone can easily view the entire ritual, and to operate a gorosoe tasting booth where visitors can directly sample fresh gorosoe sap.

The gorosoe sap harvested from Baegunsan in Gwangyang is known to be rich in natural minerals such as magnesium and calcium, and is believed to help with joint health, improvement of digestive function, and skin care.

In particular, Gwangyang gorosoe, recognized for its clear and outstanding sweetness, was registered in 2008 as Korea’s first Forest Service Geographical Indication No. 16. More recently, it has obtained eco-friendly certification, further demonstrating its excellent quality and safety.

An official from Gwangyang City said, "Through the Baegunsan Gorosoe Yaksuje, we will widely promote the excellence of our local gorosoe sap and work to invigorate the local economy and enhance the brand value of gorosoe sap."
