On Wednesday the 4th, morning temperatures in Gwangju and Jeollanam-do will remain below freezing and it will be cold, but from the afternoon temperatures will rise and the diurnal temperature range will widen significantly to around 15 degrees Celsius.

According to the Gwangju Regional Office of Meteorology on the 3rd, on the 4th, Gwangju and Jeollanam-do will see morning lows ranging from minus 4 degrees Celsius to 1 degree Celsius, similar to the seasonal averages of minus 6 degrees Celsius to minus 1 degree Celsius. However, in some inland areas, temperatures will drop to around minus 5 degrees Celsius, making it feel chilly.

From the afternoon, warm southwesterly winds will move in, and temperatures are expected to gradually rise. Daytime highs will range from 8 degrees Celsius to 12 degrees Celsius, which is higher than the seasonal averages of 5 degrees Celsius to 8 degrees Celsius, making the weather feel mild.

However, as the temperature difference between day and night will be very large at around 15 degrees Celsius, people should take special care of their health during this change of seasons, according to an official from the Korea Meteorological Administration.

As temperatures rise, the cold will ease somewhat, but roads will remain hazardous. Snow that melts during the day may refreeze overnight as temperatures drop, creating a high possibility of road black ice or icy surfaces.

In particular, bridges, overpasses, and tunnel entrances and exits are vulnerable to freezing, and icy roads are also expected on back roads, side streets, and shaded roads where temperatures are lower.

A Gwangju Regional Office of Meteorology official said, "Although temperatures will recover from the afternoon, if they drop overnight, road surfaces will freeze and become very slippery," adding, "When driving, please maintain a sufficient safe distance and take extra care to ensure pedestrian safety as well."
