Goyang Special City in Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Donghwan) announced on the 3rd that on the 2nd, as avian influenza and African swine fever continue to spread, Mayor Lee Donghwan visited the Agricultural Technology Center's central disinfection facility to inspect the disease-control system to block livestock infectious diseases.

On that day, Mayor Lee carefully checked the operating status of the disinfection equipment at the central disinfection facility, the disinfection procedures for people and vehicles, and whether the facilities were functioning properly in preparation for the cold wave. In particular, he personally checked the traffic flow of livestock vehicles entering and leaving the facility and the status of disinfection certificate issuance, and instructed staff to make every effort to block vehicle-mediated transmission, which is cited as a major route for virus introduction.

He also encouraged the on-site workers who are protecting the front line of quarantine through shift work from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. despite sub-zero temperatures, and asked the relevant departments to pay close attention to improving working conditions, including the provision of winter protection supplies and the prevention of safety accidents.

Mayor Lee said, "For livestock infectious diseases, prevention is more important than measures after an outbreak," emphasizing, "With the Lunar New Year holiday approaching, the number of homecoming travelers and vehicle movements is expected to surge, so do not let your guard down for even a moment and maintain the highest level of quarantine readiness."

He added, "To maintain zero outbreaks of livestock infectious diseases such as avian influenza and African swine fever, I ask livestock farmers to strictly observe basic quarantine rules, including restricting access by outsiders and carrying out their own disinfection, with the mindset of 'I protect my own farm.'"

Currently, Goyang City operates the central disinfection facility year-round without a break and, in cooperation with the Livestock Cooperative joint quarantine team, is mobilizing seven wide-area quarantine vehicles to disinfect migratory bird habitats and roads around small-scale farms every day, concentrating its administrative capacity on maintaining its status as a livestock infectious disease-free area.
