“Little Busan Reporters” launched in April last year
Field trips, cultural experiences, and interviews
Articles written from a child’s perspective
First group had 204 members, expanded to 312 this year
The Busan City Children Reporters Group, which has spent the past year covering various parts of Busan and documenting stories from a child’s perspective, has concluded its activities.
Busan City (Mayor Park Hyungjoon) announced that it held the “Completion Ceremony for the 1st Busan City Children Reporters Group, Little Busan Reporters” at the city hall’s main auditorium on January 31. The event was attended by over 400 people, including child reporters and their parents.
Since its launch in April last year, the 1st Children Reporters Group has visited venues such as concert halls, exhibition centers, mountains, seas, and historical sites across Busan to write articles. Rather than simple experiences, their activities focused on article writing, allowing them to record the present of Busan from a child’s viewpoint.
On the 31st, at the completion ceremony of the 1st Busan City Children's Reporters Group, Youngil Won, spokesperson of Busan City, is awarding a prize to an outstanding reporter.
The completion ceremony included a video presentation of their activities, video congratulatory messages, an awards ceremony, and celebratory performances. Certificates of excellence were awarded to 50 child reporters who wrote outstanding articles based on on-site coverage. Performances by the Busan City Boys and Girls Choir and the children’s cheerleading team “Shooting Star” followed.
Over the past year, the 1st Children Reporters Group produced more than 1,000 articles through field reporting, cultural experiences, and planned interviews. They covered major facilities such as Busan Concert Hall, Domohon, and Nakdong River Eco Center, and interviewed participants in the National Sports Festival, torchbearers, and star chefs known for black-and-white cuisine. They also reported from key city events such as the World Citizen Festival, Climate Industry International Expo, Asia Startup Expo, and G-Star.
Before the completion ceremony, an exhibition was held featuring about 140 entries for the cover illustration contest for issues 1 to 3 of the children’s newspaper “Big-i Dorandoran,” set to launch in 2025. The contest targeted students in grades 3 to 6 of elementary school, and featured works on themes such as “Busan, the Wonderful Cultural City I Dream Of,” “Busan, a City Where Sports Are Fun,” and “I Love Busan as a Tourist City.”
Busan City has completed recruitment for the 2nd Children Reporters Group. Activities will begin with an inauguration ceremony in March, and the group’s size has increased from 204 members last year to 312 this year. The print run of the children’s newspaper will also expand from 110,000 copies last year to 160,000 copies this year.
In a video congratulatory message, Mayor Park Hyungjoon said, “Through the activities of the Children Reporters Group, I have come to see Busan in a new light,” adding, “I hope this completion ceremony marks not an end, but a new beginning.”
On the 31st, the completion ceremony for the 1st Busan City Children Reporters was held at Busan City Hall.
