At approximately 1:36 PM on January 30, a forest fire broke out in the hills near 20-1 San, Jeomri, Dogye-ri, Dogye-eup, Samcheok City, Gangwon Province. Forest authorities and fire authorities immediately began firefighting operations.

Immediately after receiving the report of the fire, the fire authorities dispatched command vehicles and fire trucks at 1:37 PM. Samcheok City promptly disseminated the situation and launched an immediate response. Requests for helicopter support were made to Jeongseon County and the Samcheok military unit, and a total of five helicopters-including those from the Korea Forest Service and the National Fire Agency-were deployed in succession.
So far, a total of five helicopters (two from the Korea Forest Service, two from local governments, and one from the fire department) have been mobilized, along with approximately 110 personnel including public officials, special firefighting teams, disaster response units, and firefighters. In addition, 24 pieces of equipment, such as firefighting vehicles and fire trucks, have been deployed to the site for firefighting efforts.
As of 2:20 PM on the same day, forest authorities are investigating the exact area affected and the cause of the fire, as well as checking for any casualties. At the scene, a northeasterly wind is blowing at 2.2 meters per second, and the humidity is low at 23%, making it impossible to rule out the possibility of the fire spreading.
An official from the Gangwon Provincial Fire Prevention Headquarters stated, "We are deploying additional helicopters and ground firefighting personnel to focus all efforts on extinguishing the main fire before sunset," adding, "We will mobilize all available resources to prevent the fire from spreading."
