On the day before the funeral, at around 11:55 a.m., Jang visited the funeral hall for former Prime Minister Lee at Seoul National University Hospital in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Jang entered the funeral hall with a solemn expression. Along with Jang, other party leaders from the People Power Party, including Song Eonseok, floor leader, Jeong Jeomsik, Policy Committee Chair, and Supreme Council members Yang Hyangja and Shin Dongwook, were also present.
Jang stayed at the memorial altar for over ten minutes before leaving with Jeong Cheongrae, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, who was serving as chief mourner. Although there has been heightened attention due to ongoing internal strife within the party, he left the venue in his car without making any statements.
Jang also exchanged greetings with Jeong at the altar. When Jeong inquired about his health, Jang replied, "I am much better." Jeong then said, "Please recover your health quickly and carry on the late former Prime Minister's vision by practicing good politics." To this, Jang responded, "I will strive to practice even better politics."
Previously, on January 27, the first day the memorial altar was set up, Jang had sent a funeral wreath. After ending his hunger strike on January 22, he returned to party work on January 28.
