During the earnings conference call for the fourth quarter of last year held on January 29, SK Hynix stated, "The DRAM inventory level in the fourth quarter of last year decreased compared to the previous quarter, and it is expected to decline further in the second half of this year." The company added, "As a result, most customers are experiencing difficulties in securing memory supply and are continuously requesting an increase in supply." The company explained that while demand is surging due to expanded investments in artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure, the industry's supply capacity is unable to keep up, resulting in a severe supply-demand imbalance.
A company representative further noted, "At the end of last year, the NAND inventory index also reached the same level as DRAM. In particular, inventory reduction is expected to continue, especially for enterprise solid-state drives (eSSD)." The representative added, "We anticipate that customers who recognize memory as a bottleneck in securing data center infrastructure will continue to increase their purchases."
