Shocked by the Bill... What Happened to Customers at the Entertainment Bar?

Victims Claim "Overcharged After Being Drugged and Losing Consciousness"
Police Launch Investigation

The police have launched an investigation after receiving a series of reports that the owner of an entertainment bar in Eumseong, North Chungcheong Province, overcharged customers by using drugs.

On January 27, the Eumseong Police Station in North Chungcheong Province announced that they had booked a man in his 30s, identified as A, without detention on charges of quasi-fraud and extortion.

A, who operates more than 10 entertainment establishments in Eumseong, is suspected of repeatedly overcharging customers who visited his bar between August and December last year, taking advantage of moments when they lost consciousness. There are multiple victims, and it has been reported that one victim paid as much as 22 million won for drinks. A is also accused of following customers who attempted to drive under the influence and threatening to report them to the police in order to extort money from them.

The police, who began their investigation, conducted a search and seizure of A's entertainment establishment on January 23, securing bottles of liquor, closed-circuit (CC) TV footage, and unidentified drugs. The police suspect that A may have mixed these drugs into the drinks to make customers lose consciousness, and have requested the National Forensic Service to analyze the composition of the confiscated alcohol and drugs.

However, during the police investigation, A reportedly denied the allegations, claiming that "the customers made false reports because they did not want to pay for their drinks." The police plan to change the charge to robbery and apply for an arrest warrant if it is confirmed that A mixed drugs into the drinks.
