108 Square Meters in Size, Supported by SHINSEGAE Co., Ltd.
Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gilseong) announced on January 27 that it has established a free study space for youth called the "Smart Study Room," which officially opened on January 21.
The Smart Study Room, located on the second floor of the Youth Center, covers an area of 108 square meters (32 pyeong). It offers a total of 30 seats, including four single-person study rooms, ten open seats, and sixteen seats at group tables. The room is equipped with digital learning devices such as all-in-one PCs and iPads.
The operating hours are from 10:00 a.m. to 9:50 p.m. on weekdays. On Saturdays, it is open until 8:50 p.m., and on Sundays, until 5:50 p.m. The single-person study rooms will be available by reservation starting in February, while the general reading area can be accessed freely.
The space was created with support from SHINSEGAE Co., Ltd. This is the first outcome of a regional cooperation agreement signed in April last year among Jung-gu, SHINSEGAE Co., Ltd., and the Jung-gu Commercial District Development Center. Youth opinions were incorporated into the creation process through the Youth Operations Committee. Independent seats for focused study and group study rooms for small-scale discussions have been provided. An ultra-fast wireless network has been installed to enable online lectures and artificial intelligence (AI) education.
Last year, Jung-gu Youth Center replaced outdated heating and cooling systems and upgraded its multipurpose activity space, gymnasium, and changing rooms. The rooftop cooling tower was removed and replaced with a deck, which is now used as a space for cultural programs.
Kim Gilseong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "The Smart Study Room is a meaningful example of creating a space from the perspective of youth and achieving results through public-private cooperation," adding, "We will continue to develop the Youth Center into a richer space for learning and communication."
