The police have requested an arrest warrant for a man in his 50s who is suspected of setting fire to the silver grass colony along the Taehwagang River in Ulsan.
The Ulsan Bukbu Police Station applied for an arrest warrant on January 26 for Mr. A, who was urgently apprehended on January 25 on suspicion of arson. Mr. A is accused of setting fire with a lighter to the silver grass colony near Myeongchon Bridge in Buk-gu, Ulsan, at around 7:26 p.m. on January 24. According to the police investigation at the scene, there were a total of six separate ignition points. Mr. A reportedly rode a bicycle, setting fire to the silver grass at one location, moving to another spot, and repeating the act multiple times.
The police analyzed footage from closed-circuit television (CCTV) at the scene to track Mr. A’s movements and identify his residence. They then used mobile phone location tracking to urgently arrest him on a road in Nam-gu on January 25, the day after the crime. During police questioning, Mr. A admitted to all the charges. However, it was reported that he continued to provide inconsistent statements regarding his motive, either giving answers unrelated to the questions or reversing his testimony.
