Bruises Found on Deceased Mother's Face and Body

The police have requested an arrest warrant for a woman in her 60s who is accused of fatally assaulting her mother in her 90s, with whom she lived.

According to a report by Yonhap News Agency on January 25, the Bupyeong Police Station in Incheon has applied for an arrest warrant for Ms. A, a woman in her 60s, on charges of causing death by assaulting a direct ascendant. The police have also requested an arrest warrant for Ms. A’s husband, Mr. B, also in his 60s, on charges of aiding and abetting the crime.

Ms. A is accused of repeatedly assaulting her mother, Ms. C, in her 90s, at their home in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, on January 20, resulting in her mother’s death three days later. Mr. B is reported to have aided and abetted the assault and failed to provide assistance to Ms. C. The couple left the mother unattended at home after she collapsed from the assault.

Ms. A called emergency services directly at 5:41 p.m. on January 23, three days after the crime, saying, “My mother is not breathing.” The police found bruises on Ms. C’s face and other areas, and determined that there was evidence of a crime. Ms. A was taken into emergency custody at around 8 p.m. that day.

Ms. A reportedly admitted to the police that she had assaulted her mother and believed her mother died around noon on the 23rd, three days after the assault, stating, “It was because of family issues.” The investigation revealed that the couple had started living with the mother two months prior to the crime. Ms. C had previously lived with other family members, but due to family circumstances, had moved in with Ms. A and her husband. However, it was found that there had been no prior reports of domestic violence involving this family.

The police have requested an autopsy of Ms. C from the National Forensic Service to determine the exact time and cause of death.
