Jangseong County in South Jeolla Province announced on January 25 that it is making every effort to prevent the spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza.

The highly pathogenic avian influenza virus recently detected in Korea has been found to be more than ten times as infectious as in previous years. It is occurring most frequently among egg-laying chickens (layers).

Jangseong County has designated a "special management period for layer farms" until the end of this month. The county is taking proactive measures, including assigning officials to farms with more than 50,000 layers, restricting the entry and exit of livestock vehicles on farms, and inspecting for violations of quarantine regulations.

To prevent the introduction and spread of the virus via livestock vehicles, the county is operating disinfection facilities around the clock and has set up separate quarantine checkpoints near layer and duck farms.

In addition, poultry farms are being disinfected daily using specialized vehicles. Disinfection of small-scale farms is supported by the Livestock Cooperative’s joint control team.

Kim Hanjong, Governor of Jangseong County, stated, "The situation regarding avian influenza outbreaks in the Gyeonggi, Chungcheong, and Jeolla regions is serious, so we are strengthening our quarantine posture. We will minimize damage to farms through systematic and thorough response."
