Jung-gu, Seoul to Provide Comprehensive Support from Pregnancy to Postpartum

Up to 10 Million Won in Childbirth and Child-Rearing Support Funds

On January 25, Jung-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Gilseong) announced that it will continue to provide practical support for childbirth and child-rearing that can be directly felt in daily life, from pregnancy through postpartum care.

To alleviate the financial burden in the early stages of childbirth, Jung-gu provides childbirth and child-rearing support funds. The support is among the highest in Seoul: 1 million won for the first child, 2 million won for the second, 3 million won for the third, 5 million won for the fourth, and 10 million won for the fifth child and beyond. To be eligible, both the newborn and parents must be registered residents of Jung-gu, and the parents must have lived in Jung-gu for at least 12 months as of the child's birth date. Last year, 569 households benefited from this program, and the third household to receive the 10 million won support was recorded.

During pregnancy, Jung-gu helps reduce the burden of household chores. Pregnant women who have lived in Jung-gu for at least six months can use the household care service-which includes cleaning, laundry, and dishwashing-regardless of income, up to five times, with each session lasting four hours, free of charge.

Jung-gu is also fostering a culture of consideration for pregnant women and families with newborns. When registering a birth, families receive a courtesy sticker that encourages visitors to refrain from ringing the doorbell and indicates a child is present in the vehicle. The "Pregnant Women All Free Pass" system allows pregnant women to access district office services without waiting in line, and the Jung-gu Family Center, Childcare Support Center, kids cafes, and 21 branches of Woori Bank are also participating in this initiative.

After childbirth, services are provided for children under the age of 12, including childcare support, care for existing children in families with a second child or more, and financial support for grandparents providing childcare. The district also connects families with city and government programs such as shared parenting centers, Seoul Mom and Dad Taxi, child allowance, parental benefits, and home care allowances to further ease the burden of child-rearing.

Additional support is available to ensure healthy pregnancies and childbirth, including pre-pregnancy health management, financial support for infertility treatments, medical expense support for pregnant women aged 35 and older, postpartum care costs, and free pertussis vaccinations for pregnant women.

Kim Gilseong, Mayor of Jung-gu, stated, "Having and raising a child is a great joy, but it also comes with significant psychological and financial burdens. Jung-gu will continue to provide strong support to help ease the daily lives of families with newborns."
