Joo Ho-young (66), Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and a member of the People Power Party, will announce his candidacy for Daegu Mayor at 1:30 p.m. on January 25 at the 'Park Chung-hee Plaza' in Dongdaegu Station.
Immediately after his announcement, Deputy Speaker Joo will move to the Daegu City Party Office of the People Power Party to hold a press conference. There, he plans to present his vision and concrete ambitions for Daegu's future, addressing key issues such as the administrative integration of Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province, the integrated new airport, and the relocation of the water intake source.
Deputy Speaker Joo will emphasize that Daegu's long-standing projects require political determination and close negotiations with the central government, and will declare himself the 'best-prepared candidate' fully committed to resolving the city's most difficult challenges.
Starting with this schedule, Deputy Speaker Joo intends to embark on a full-scale campaign to communicate with citizens across Daegu, listening to their voices, seeking answers on-site, and developing solutions together with the public.
Deputy Speaker Joo served as a judge in the Daegu and North Gyeongsang region for over 20 years before entering politics. He was elected as a National Assembly member for the sixth time in Suseong District, Daegu, and currently serves as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly as a member of the People Power Party. He also previously served as Minister without Portfolio and Senior Political Affairs Secretary to the President in the early days of the Lee Myung-bak administration.
