The severe cold wave is expected to continue on Saturday, January 24, with morning temperatures dropping significantly. The lowest temperature is forecast to reach minus 17 degrees Celsius, and even during the day, temperatures will remain between minus 5 degrees and 6 degrees Celsius.
Due to the influx of cold air from the north, a cold wave advisory has been issued for the Seoul metropolitan area, North Chungcheong Province, and the inland areas of North Gyeongsang Province. Strong winds are also expected, making the perceived temperature even lower.
In the central region, morning temperatures are expected to drop to around minus 10 degrees Celsius.
The atmosphere will remain very dry, especially in the mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, the coastal areas of South Jeolla Province, and the Gyeongsang region. With strong winds accompanying the dry conditions, the risk of fire may increase. In most regions across the country, wind gusts are forecast to reach around 15.3 meters per second.
The sky will be cloudy nationwide but will gradually clear from the morning. However, South Chungcheong Province and the Jeolla region are expected to remain mostly cloudy until the afternoon.
In the southern inland areas of Gyeonggi Province, the southern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province, the Chungcheong and Jeolla regions (excluding the west coast), the western inland areas of Gyeongsang Province, and Jeju Island, snow is expected in the early morning. The expected snowfall is 1 to 5 centimeters in Gwangju, South Jeolla, and North Jeolla Provinces; 1 to 3 centimeters in Daejeon, Sejong, South Chungcheong, North Chungcheong, and the southern inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon Province; and less than 1 centimeter in Seoul and the inland areas of Gyeonggi Province.
