Pocheon Rises Above Crisis, Leaping Toward "Greater Happiness" in 2026
Despite facing unprecedented challenges last year, Pocheon City in Gyeonggi Province quietly planted the seeds of growth. Even in the face of setbacks such as an accidental air force fighter jet bombing and record-breaking heavy rainfall, the city achieved significant milestones, including attracting the Gyeonggi Defense Venture Center, being selected for the largest number of Pocheon-style EBS Self-Directed Learning Centers nationwide, and commencing construction on the entire Pocheon-Okjeong metropolitan railway line, proving itself to be a "city resilient to crises."

Field-Oriented Empathetic Administration... Achieving a 30-Minute Living Zone and a Seamless Transportation Network in the Capital Region
Pocheon City’s starting point for municipal administration in 2026 is clear: the "field." Marking the Year of the Fire Horse in 2026, the city has set its administrative direction around strengthening education and care, resolving citizen inconveniences, revitalizing the local economy and job creation, and boosting tourism.
Since January 8, the city has been conducting "Consensus Communication Meetings," proactively reaching out to citizens. This reflects a strong commitment to incorporating even the smallest everyday inconveniences experienced by residents-such as installing facilities to reduce livestock odors and creating pocket parking lots on unused land-into municipal policies.
The city is accelerating efforts to create living conditions that make Pocheon a desirable place to live. By 2030, it plans to supply 21 complexes with a total of 23,000 housing units in phases and officially launch the Songwoo 2 public-supported private rental housing district. In addition, projects like the Pocheoncheon Blueway, the comprehensive development of Cheongseongsan, and the creation of Taebong Neighborhood Park are underway to establish a living environment where housing, leisure, and culture coexist in harmony.
Efforts to build transportation infrastructure, which will determine the city’s future competitiveness, are also in full swing. The Okjeong-Pocheon section of Subway Line 7 has already broken ground and is progressing smoothly. The city plans to significantly enhance accessibility to major hubs in the capital region by finalizing the urban railway plan for the Deokjeong-Okjeong line to connect with the GTX-C line and reflecting the GTX-G line in the 5th National Rail Network Construction Plan. At the same time, the internal road network, including urban planning roads, will be systematically improved to increase convenience for residents.

From a City People Leave for Education to a City People Seek for Education
The area Pocheon City is most dedicated to is undoubtedly education and care.
With the goal of transforming from a "city people leave for education" to a "city people seek for education," Pocheon is further advancing its 2024 pilot project as an Education Development Special Zone. The city is expanding the Pocheon-style EBS Self-Directed Learning Centers-which set a national record for the highest number of selections-across different regions and enhancing the pilot project for the special education development zone. In particular, the expansion of "Pocheon Edu Road," free childcare for children under three, and the establishment of the "Pocheon Aebom 365" regional care hub are expected to strongly encourage parents to raise their children with peace of mind.
The city is also focusing its administrative capacity on resolving inconveniences directly affecting citizens’ daily lives. Based on on-site feedback collected through the Consensus Communication Meetings, it is implementing effective measures such as installing three-stage livestock odor reduction facilities and expanding the creation of pocket parking lots on unused land to address chronic parking shortages in old downtown areas. The city is committed to not overlooking even the smallest inconvenience.
Revitalizing the local economy and creating jobs are also key pillars of municipal administration.
The city is boosting local consumption by expanding consumer benefits for the Pocheon Love Gift Certificate to up to 20 percent. It is also easing burdens for small business owners by providing special support for electricity bills, expanding the scale of special guarantees, and improving business environments. In addition, through the operation of the Pocheon Business Center, business environment improvement projects, the establishment of advanced industrial complexes, and the operation of the Gyeonggi Defense Venture Center, the city plans to provide high-value-added jobs for young people and build a sustainable industrial foundation.

A Spectacular Transformation into a Global Tourism City
Pocheon City is also preparing to become a stay-type tourism city in the tourism sector.
By hosting the Hantan River Garden Festa integrated festival and opening the Hantan River Media Park, the city is laying the foundation for year-round tourism and expanding experiential tourism facilities such as natural-style rapids and zip riders. By developing performance, camping, and leisure complexes and themed convenience facilities, Pocheon aims to strengthen tourism infrastructure. In the mid-to-long term, the city plans to establish a peace garden and waterfront park, designate the Bidulginang Falls area as a tourist destination, and seek designation as a peace economy special zone to attract private investment. These efforts will be linked with major tourism resources such as Unaksan, Sanjeong Lake, Art Valley, and Baegun Valley.
At the same time, the city will strengthen healthcare support services and expand community-based sports facilities to support healthy daily lives for residents. Plans are also underway to create small parks on unused land, improve street environments, designate outdoor advertising maintenance zones, and rejuvenate old downtown areas by demolishing abandoned houses, thereby creating a pleasant garden city with a refined urban landscape.
A Pocheon City official emphasized, "The year 2026 is the golden time that will determine Pocheon’s future for the next 100 years. Together with over a thousand public officials, we will be out in the field, creating changes that citizens can truly feel."
