GS Caltex Yeulmaru (hereafter referred to as Yeulmaru) will present the musical "Mrs. Doubtfire" on January 24 and 25 at the Yeulmaru Grand Theater.
This production is a family musical that delivers both laughter and heartfelt emotion, offering a warm message and a variety of spectacles that audiences of all generations can enjoy together.
The musical "Mrs. Doubtfire" is based on the 1993 Hollywood film of the same name starring Robin Williams. It tells the story of Daniel, a husband and father who, after a divorce, disguises himself as the nanny "Mrs. Doubtfire" to stay close to his wife and children. The show explores universal themes such as family, relationships, and personal growth, delivering deep empathy and laughter through warm humor and touching moments.
In particular, the dual roles of "Daniel" and "Mrs. Doubtfire," portrayed by three actors each with their own unique charm, add vibrancy to the production. The character transformations and emotional arcs on stage draw audiences in, creating a sense of tension and excitement that keeps viewers engaged throughout the performance.
This musical made its Korean debut in 2022 as the world’s first licensed production outside of the original, garnering attention for its "Korean-customized" approach to producing. Now returning for its second season after three years, the show continues its success with more nuanced direction, upgraded staging, and even higher-caliber performances.
With the participation of director Kim Dongyeon, music director Kim Moonjeong, and translator Hwang Seokhee, the creative team has gone beyond simply recreating the original, expanding the emotional resonance and immersion for Korean audiences.
This performance features 20 quick changes (rapid costume and makeup changes), as well as elements such as breakdancing, tap dancing, and rap, offering a wide array of visual delights. The various grandmother characters played by male actors are also considered a unique and entertaining highlight of the show.
The Yeulmaru production of "Mrs. Doubtfire" features the same cast as the Seoul performances. The role of "Daniel & Doubtfire" will be played by Hwang Jungmin, Jung Sunghwa, and Jung Sanghoon. Hwang Jungmin, known as a "must-see actor" for his proven acting skills and box office appeal across film, drama, and theater, will showcase his impressive range.
Jung Sunghwa, who received rave reviews in the 2022 premiere, elevates the production with his explosive energy and nuanced emotional performance, while new cast member Jung Sanghoon brings a lively character to the stage with his signature comedic style and freshness.
The performance runs for 175 minutes (including a 20-minute intermission) and is open to elementary school students and older. Ticket prices are 170,000 won for R seats, 140,000 won for S seats, and 110,000 won for A seats. Tickets can be reserved through GS Caltex Yeulmaru and NOL Ticket, with various discounts available, including a 10% member discount, a 15% group discount (for groups of 50 or more, by phone reservation), and a 20% welfare discount.
