On January 23, Lee Sangil, Mayor of Yongin, met with Kim Dongyeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, who visited City Hall, and requested provincial-level support on key city issues, including this matter.
During the meeting, Mayor Lee asked that the authority of the Industrial Complex Plan Review Committee, currently held by the province, be delegated to the city so that projects tailored to local characteristics can be promoted more quickly.
According to the current Act on Industrial Sites and Development, cities with populations of 500,000 or more are granted the authority to designate general industrial complexes. However, Yongin City points out that, because the authority to review industrial complex plans remains with the metropolitan or provincial government, administrative procedures take a considerable amount of time.
Mayor Lee argued, "In order to enhance the competitiveness of the semiconductor industry, where speed is crucial, the authority for local industrial complex review should be transferred from the province to the city."
He also emphasized that the central government, Gyeonggi Province, and Yongin City must pool their administrative capabilities to ensure that the national advanced system semiconductor industrial complex planned for the Idong and Namsa-eup areas proceeds as scheduled. In particular, Mayor Lee asked the province to make efforts to support the supply of electricity and water to the system semiconductor complex as planned.
Mayor Lee also requested that the province support the inclusion of projects being promoted by the city-such as the extension of the Gyeonggang Line, the Gyeonggi Southern East-West Line, and the Gyeonggi Southern Metropolitan Railway-in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 5th National Rail Network Construction Plan.
In addition, he called for the province's attention and support to ensure that the preliminary feasibility study for the extension of the Bundang Line from Giheung Station to Osan University Station, which is included in the 4th National Rail Network Construction Plan, begins promptly.
Mayor Lee further requested that 11 new and expanded local road projects, including the expansion of Local Road No. 321, be reflected as much as possible in the 4th Gyeonggi Province Road Construction Plan.
