'Songs of Memories' Theme
Festival to Be Held October 7-11
Gwangju Dong-gu announced on January 23 that the 23rd Chumjang Festival of Memories, themed 'Songs of Memories,' will be held for five days from October 7 to 11 in the areas of Geumnam-ro, Chumjang-ro, and Art Street.
On the previous afternoon, Dong-gu held the first plenary meeting of the 2026 Chumjang Festival of Memories Committee in the situation room on the third floor of the Dong-gu Office, where they discussed the schedule for the 23rd Gwangju Chumjang Festival of Memories and ways to further develop the festival.
During the meeting, the following agenda items were addressed: ▲ Appointment of new committee members ▲ Report on the results of the 22nd Gwangju Chumjang Festival of Memories and appointment of the general director ▲ Decision on the timing of the 23rd Gwangju Chumjang Festival of Memories ▲ Discussion on mid- to long-term development plans for the Chumjang Festival.
As a result of the meeting, the committee elected Koo Jae-gil, Chairman of the Gwangju Community Chest of Korea, as the Chumjang Festival Committee Chairperson. In addition, it was officially confirmed that the 23rd Gwangju Chumjang Festival of Memories will be held for five days from October 7 to 11, and the committee decided to begin full-scale preparations for the festival.
To ensure the successful hosting of the 23rd Chumjang Festival, committee members presented a variety of opinions, including: ▲ Discovering new flagship killer content ▲ Designing programs differentiated from those in other regions ▲ Reorganizing festival spaces ▲ Enhancing the theme and direction of the parade. They continued in-depth discussions on sustainable development strategies for the Chumjang Festival.
Chairperson Koo Jae-gil stated, "By communicating and cooperating closely with the committee members and actively incorporating diverse opinions, we will create a Chumjang Festival that both citizens and tourists can relate to and enjoy."
A Dong-gu official said, "Through the committee, we confirmed the festival dates, and it was a meaningful opportunity to directly hear the various opinions of the members. We will prepare the 23rd Gwangju Chumjang Festival of Memories as a world-class festival befitting the status of a global festival city."
