Netflix's "Skyscraper Live"
Worldwide Simultaneous Live Broadcast at 10 a.m. on January 24
A 508-meter vertical climbing show that tests the limits of human capability will be broadcast live to living rooms around the world this weekend.
Netflix will simultaneously stream "Skyscraper Live: Scaling the Super Tall," which captures world-renowned climber Alex Honnold free soloing Taiwan's iconic Taipei 101 building, to audiences worldwide at 10 a.m. on January 24.
Honnold, who will take on the 101-story skyscraper without a single rope, is regarded as a living legend in the "free solo" discipline, which involves climbing without any safety equipment. In 2017, he shocked the world by becoming the first person in history to scale the massive El Capitan rock face in Yosemite National Park, USA, without any gear. The documentary "Free Solo," which chronicled this feat, won the Best Documentary Feature at the 91st Academy Awards.
Having conquered the rugged granite of nature, Honnold now takes his stage to the heart of the city atop a skyscraper. The Taipei 101 he will challenge is a supertall building standing 101 stories and 508 meters high. Its smooth glass and steel exterior demands a level of grip strength and endurance entirely different from natural rock faces. While Alain Robert, known as "Spiderman," climbed it in four hours in 2004, Honnold is pushing human boundaries with techniques that are far more precise and daring.
The highlight of this event is, above all, its "live broadcast." Unlike pre-recorded shows that allow for editing and retakes, every moment of the climb-where a single mistake could lead to irreversible consequences-will be aired to the world without filters. Netflix stated, "Based on the physical and mental strength that Honnold has honed over many years, he will showcase the largest-scale urban free solo climb ever attempted," heightening the sense of anticipation.
