Cheon Sanghyun, the former Blue House presidential executive chef who gained widespread attention after appearing on the Netflix cooking variety show "Black and White Chef 2," has revealed that he is battling lung cancer.
On January 21, Chef Cheon shared on the YouTube channel "One Mic," "In fact, I was approached to appear in season 1 of 'Black and White Chef' and was planning to participate, but I was unwell at the time."
Chef Cheon explained, "I have undergone surgery and am currently taking chemotherapy medication. I have had two surgeries and had part of my lung removed twice. There was also a tumor in my head, which was suspected to be a meningioma. So I underwent radiation therapy surgery, and I also have noise-induced hearing loss, which makes it difficult for me to understand speech."
Created memorable moments with Master Chef Hu Deokjuk... "The person who recommended me to the Blue House"
The story of Chef Cheon's mentor, Master Chef Hu Deokjuk, was also introduced. In 2005, Chef Hu became the first chef-turned-executive (Managing Director) in Korea's hotel industry and is the executive chef of "Hobin" at Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel, which has received one Michelin star for two consecutive years.
Chef Cheon recalled, "It was Master Hu Deokjuk who recommended me as the Blue House presidential chef. He was asked to recommend a chef for the Blue House, largely because Shilla Hotel's Chinese cuisine had become well known at the time. Two people were recommended, and I submitted my resume. After a two-month background check by the Presidential Secretariat, I was able to join."
