Strengthening Systems for Prevention of Missing Cases and Swift Discovery
Muan County in South Jeolla Province will distribute smart tags free of charge to help prevent missing incidents among dementia patients and to enable their swift discovery in emergency situations.
According to the county, the smart tag is a compact device that links with a caregiver’s smartphone application, providing real-time location tracking, movement history, and sound alert functions. It can be attached to bags, necklaces, or shoes, allowing it to be used in accordance with the patient’s lifestyle.
This initiative will prioritize dementia patients registered with the county’s Dementia Relief Center who are at high risk of wandering, as well as residents aged 80 and older living in dementia-safe villages.
The county expects that distributing the smart tags will reduce the risk of dementia patients going missing and shorten the response time in the event of a disappearance, enabling faster discovery and improved safety.
Lee Haengsuk, Head of the Health Promotion Division of Muan County, stated, “Providing smart tags is meaningful in reducing the anxiety of families with dementia patients and alleviating the burden of care. We will continue to expand prevention-focused support policies so that dementia patients and their families can live safely and with peace of mind within the local community.”
