On Day One of the AI Basic Law, 'On-Site Support' Begins... Corporate Consultation Desk Launched

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on January 22 that it has launched the 'AI Basic Law Support Desk' to provide legal and technical consultations for companies in line with the enforcement of the Artificial Intelligence Basic Law.

The support desk has been established within the Korea Artificial Intelligence Software Industry Association (KOSA), located in the IT Venture Tower in Songpa-gu, Seoul. The opening ceremony was attended by Ryu Jemyoung, Second Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT; Cho Joonhee, President of KOSA; Son Seunghyun, President of the Korea Information and Communication Technology Association; and Kim Myungjoo, Director of the Artificial Intelligence Safety Research Institute.

The support desk officially began operations on the date the law took effect, aiming to address challenges faced by the industry due to the implementation of the AI Basic Law. Experts in legal, regulatory, and technical fields from organizations such as the National Information Society Agency (NIA), the Artificial Intelligence Safety Research Institute, the Korea Information and Communication Technology Association, and the Korea Information Society Development Institute (KISDI) are participating to provide consultations. All consultation details are kept confidential as a principle.

For general inquiries, the goal is to respond within 72 hours on business days after receipt, while issues requiring legal review will be answered within a maximum of 14 days. Based on the consultations, the Ministry of Science and ICT plans to produce and distribute a collection of major Q&A cases and, in cooperation with the startup sector, hold regional 'AI Basic Law Information Sessions on the Road.'

Second Vice Minister Ryu Jemyoung stated, "The AI Basic Law is central to the development of the AI industry and the creation of a basic AI society," adding, "The support desk will serve as a guide to help the law take root in the field."

The support desk operates from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, and consultation requests can be made via a dedicated phone line or through the KOSA website.
