Results of the "THE" World Medicine University Rankings Announced
Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine ranked 40th in the world and 1st in Korea in the "2026 THE Medicine World University Rankings" announced by Times Higher Education (THE), a UK-based university evaluation agency.
The top spot among medical schools worldwide went to the University of Oxford in the UK, followed by the University of Cambridge in second place, and Harvard University in the United States in third.
According to Samsung Medical Center on January 21, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine has steadily improved its ranking since first entering the global top 100 by placing 88th in the "2016 THE World University Rankings."
Lee Joonhaeng, Dean of Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine and Professor of Gastroenterology at Samsung Medical Center, stated, "I am both delighted and deeply aware of the responsibility that comes with achieving 1st place in Korea and 40th in the world in the highly competitive field of biomedical sciences," adding, "Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine has received high international recognition for creating synergy through the integration of basic science, clinical practice, and industry."
According to THE's evaluation results, Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine showed balanced growth across all assessment areas compared to last year. The overall score increased by 3.2 points from the previous year, and scores improved in every category, including education, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and internationalization.
Notably, last year, Professors Ahn Myungjoo and Park Sehun of the Division of Hematology and Oncology at Samsung Medical Center were named among the "2025 Highly Cited Researchers (HCR)" by Clarivate, a global academic analytics company, demonstrating the school's research competitiveness.
Lee Wooyong, Vice President for Medical Affairs at Sungkyunkwan University and Professor of Colorectal Surgery at Samsung Medical Center, commented, "This valuable result was possible because Sungkyunkwan University School of Medicine achieved high marks across all areas," adding, "We will continue to spare no effort or investment to further strengthen our research and educational capabilities."
