Yeonggwang County, South Jeolla Province, announced that it carried out snow removal work involving all county employees to minimize inconvenience to residents in response to the heavy snowfall that continued from January 21 to 22, 2026.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration and other sources, Yeonggwang County recorded an average snowfall of more than 12.6 centimeters during this period. This raised concerns about traffic and pedestrian safety.
During the heavy snow warning, the snow removal response team and the towns and townships worked together to conduct overnight snow removal operations on a total of 29 routes covering 321 kilometers.
In addition, with ongoing concerns about safety accidents due to snow accumulation in various parts of the city, Governor Jang Seil and all county office employees were dispatched to major downtown areas to complete snow removal and take anti-slip measures, focusing on roads, intersections, slopes, and pedestrian walkways.
Furthermore, Governor Jang thoroughly inspected not only the snow removal sites but also the safety of daily life facilities, including water supply systems, to prevent damage from the cold wave and minimize inconvenience to county residents.
Governor Jang stated, "Although the heavy snow warning has been lifted, there are still concerns about safety accidents due to remaining snow and icy roads. We will continue to prioritize the safety of our residents and ensure thorough follow-up management."
