Wando County in South Jeolla Province has announced plans to construct the Bandabi Sports Center to promote sports and physical activities for people with disabilities.

On January 22, Wando County stated that it will invest a total of 7 billion won by 2027 to build the Bandabi Sports Center within the Wando County Sports Park area.

The Bandabi Sports Center will be a community-oriented sports facility designed to enable people with disabilities to actively participate in sports without restrictions. While priority access will be guaranteed for people with disabilities, non-disabled individuals will also be able to use the facility.

'Bandabi' is named after the mascot of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Paralympics. The county plans to construct a two-story building with a total floor area of 1,660 square meters within the sports park. The center will include a gymnasium, fitness center, multipurpose room, and personal lockers.

Construction is scheduled to begin in April, with completion targeted for the end of 2027. Once established, the Bandabi Sports Center is expected to not only promote sports and health among people with disabilities but also revitalize the local community by hosting various sports events.

Choi Jeonghwan, Director of Sports Promotion, stated, "We will ensure the project proceeds smoothly with the goal of providing an inclusive sports environment where all county residents can enjoy sports."
