The Gwangju Seo-gu Council announced on January 22 that the ordinance bill titled "Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu Ordinance on the Prevention and Support of Damage from Heavy Snowfall and Cold Waves," sponsored by Council Member Kim Taejin during the 337th extraordinary session, has passed the relevant standing committee.
This ordinance was enacted to protect citizens' lives, physical safety, and property from heavy snowfall and cold waves, and to stipulate necessary measures for damage prevention.
The main provisions of the ordinance include: ▲ Establishment of prevention plans for damage caused by heavy snowfall and cold waves ▲ Operation and support of cold wave shelters ▲ Support for disaster-vulnerable groups.
Kim Taejin, Member of the Seo-gu Council, stated, "Damage from heavy snowfall and cold waves inevitably concentrates on disaster-vulnerable groups such as the elderly, persons with disabilities, and low-income households who are socioeconomically disadvantaged." He added, "Through this ordinance, we will continue to implement practical, community-based policies that residents can truly feel, such as promoting smart cold wave shelters."
