As the KOSPI surpassed the 5,000 mark for the first time in history, securities stocks are showing strong gains across the board.
As of 1:02 p.m. on this day, shares of Kiwoom Securities were trading at 332,000 won on the Korea Exchange, up 7.62% from the previous trading day. The stock opened at 315,500 won and continued to gain momentum throughout the morning. At one point during the session, it soared to 339,500 won, setting a new 52-week high.
At the same time, Kyobo Securities (up 4.14%), Korea Financial Group (up 3.76%), Samsung Securities (up 2.82%), Meritz Financial Group (up 2.37%), SangSangIn Securities (up 2.37%), Hanwha Investment & Securities (up 2.17%), and Hyundai Motor Securities (up 2.15%) also showed simultaneous strength.
It appears that investor sentiment has been boosted by expectations for securities firms' performance following the achievement of the "Five Thousand-Pi" milestone. Jung Minki, a researcher at Samsung Securities, recently commented on the securities sector, saying, "The performance of securities firms in the fourth quarter of 2025 is expected to be very solid, considering seasonality," and added, "Due to the explosive increase in trading volume driven by the continued strength of the domestic stock market at the beginning of the year, expectations have already shifted to the first quarter results of this year."
