Bithumb announced on the 22nd that it held the inauguration ceremony for the Information Security Advisory Committee at Bithumb Financial Tower in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on the 20th and conducted its first advisory meeting. The purpose of the Information Security Advisory Committee is to enhance the exchange's security capabilities by ensuring that security policies and response strategies are not based solely on internal judgment, but are continuously validated from an objective perspective by external experts.
Since the implementation of the Virtual Asset User Protection Act in 2024, Bithumb has operated various committees, including the Internal Control Committee, Market Surveillance Committee, and Anti-Money Laundering Risk Management Committee. Through collaboration with external experts, the company has continuously advanced its internal control and protection systems. With the launch of the Information Security Advisory Committee, Bithumb has established a new framework for expert collaboration that not only provides professional validation of its security system but also enhances the decision-making structure related to security.
The Bithumb Information Security Advisory Committee is composed of domestic experts in information security and blockchain security. The committee is co-chaired by Jae-won Lee, CEO of Bithumb, and Seung-joo Kim, professor at Korea University. The advisory board also includes Min-seok Kang, professor at KAIST; Ki-wook Son, professor at Seoul National University of Science and Technology; and Eun-sung Kang, professor at Seoul Women's University.
The committee will be operated based on regular face-to-face meetings held quarterly and ad hoc consultations as needed. Its agenda will broadly cover the establishment of a preventive security system, strengthening operational resilience, information security policies and technology strategies, integrated security management systems, cyber threat response scenarios, employee security training, and regulatory response strategies. Through these activities, the committee aims to enhance Bithumb's ability to defend against security risks not only to personal information but also to virtual assets themselves. It will proactively manage and validate risk factors that could lead to system failures, loss of customer trust, or increased regulatory risks, and will recommend improvements and oversee their implementation.
A Bithumb representative stated, "The Information Security Advisory Committee is an organization that redefines information security as a core management task, crucial to brand trust and sustainability, beyond merely responding to regulations. Through ongoing validation and advice from external experts, we will build a more transparent and reliable information security system."
