The subgrade new construction project for the Southern Inland Railway (Gimcheon to Geoje) involves building a new railway network connecting the Seoul metropolitan area with the inland and southern coastal regions of Gyeongsangbuk-do and Gyeongsangnam-do, by linking Gimcheon in North Gyeongsang Province to Geoje in South Gyeongsang Province over a single-track electrified line spanning 174.59 kilometers.
HDC Hyundai Development Company, together with Jeongan Construction and SC General Construction, will construct 18.196 kilometers of new subgrade between Changcheon-ri, Gacheon-myeon, Seongju-gun and Yaro-myeon, Hapcheon-gun in North Gyeongsang Province. The project includes 15.999 kilometers of tunnels, one station (Seongju), and three inclined shafts (construction tunnels).
The total construction cost for this project is approximately 4.943 trillion won. Of the 287.1 billion won allocated for Section 3, HDC Hyundai Development Company's portion amounts to about 229.7 billion won. Construction is scheduled to begin in February 2026.

Once the subgrade new construction for the Southern Inland Railway (Gimcheon to Geoje) is completed, it will enable direct train service from Seoul to Geoje without transfers, significantly improving accessibility between the Seoul metropolitan area and the western region of South Gyeongsang Province. In addition, the project is expected to contribute to regional economic development by revitalizing the tourism industry along the southern coast and creating local jobs.
A representative from HDC Hyundai Development Company stated, "As this project aims for balanced national land development, we will carry it out with systematic safety and quality management," adding, "Based on our accumulated expertise in social overhead capital, we will continue to expand our influence in the infrastructure sector."
