Five Community-Based Hub Facilities, Including Yangju Saemnae Eoullim Center, to Break Ground or Be Completed This Month

Five community-based hub facilities in Gyeonggi Province are scheduled to either break ground or be completed this month.

According to Gyeonggi Province on January 22, construction will begin this month on three sites: the Bucheon City Economic Experimental Goriumjip in Gogang-dong, Bucheon; the Citizen Aol Center in Hongmun-dong, Yeoju; and the Saemnae Eoullim Center in Sanbuk-dong, Yangju. In addition, the Gyeonggi Kumtle Community Center in Deokjeong-dong, Yangju, and the Gwangok Village Silver Care Center in Singal-dong, Yongin, are scheduled for completion this month.

Urban regeneration hub facilities in Gyeonggi Province refer to public and community spaces within urban regeneration project areas that are used collectively by residents. These are not merely buildings, but are considered core hub spaces that serve as centers for village activities, the local economy, welfare, and culture, and are therefore called "hub facilities."

The Bucheon Gogang-dong Economic Experimental Goriumjip will be a four-story building (463 square meters) housing a food research lab and lecture rooms. The Yeoju Citizen Aol Center will be a four-story facility (2,941 square meters) featuring a multipurpose studio and a youth entrepreneurship academy. The Yangju Saemnae Eoullim Center will be a three-story building (832 square meters) with classrooms for seniors and community sports facilities.

The Gyeonggi Kumtle Community Center in Yangju, scheduled for completion, is a large-scale hub facility with eight floors (10,013 square meters), offering a range of integrated services such as living, culture, care, entrepreneurship, and a national sports center. The Gwangok Village Silver Care Center in Yongin is a two-story building (200 square meters) that will provide care programs including health classes for seniors. Each facility is expected to offer a variety of services tailored to local needs, contributing to community revitalization and supporting entrepreneurship to boost regional vitality.

The urban regeneration projects promoted by the central government and Gyeonggi Province aim to improve the residential environment and living conditions in declining old city centers where populations and businesses are decreasing and aging housing is increasing. The goal is to enhance urban vitality, restore local communities, and achieve sustainable urban regeneration. Currently, Gyeonggi Province has the highest number of selected government urban regeneration projects in the country, with 75 sites chosen.

Chun Byungmoon, Director of Urban Regeneration at Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Gyeonggi Province is establishing a collaborative system with cities, counties, experts, and urban regeneration support centers to ensure the success of these projects. We will continue to monitor project progress on a monthly basis and strengthen field-oriented management systems, making every effort to implement urban regeneration that fits the characteristics of each region so that residents can truly feel the benefits."
